Beautiful Cliffside Villa

There may have been times when we have drove past luxurious bungalows and beautiful villas and wished our dream homes to be similar or close to it. Here we take you through a tour of one such beautiful, modernist cliff side villa designed by Oscar Shamamian and Michael S.Smith(remember, the Whitehouse interior decorator?).The villa is situated on a steep site overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The principle areas encompass five levels, with related living, dining and library spaces.A glass elevator connects these levels to the bedrooms below and to the roof and pool terrace.

The living room has been set with an 18-ton retractable glass to allow the inside and outside to dissolve into one.The decor inside is kept simple yet elegant leaving room for ample space to showcase some striking displays.

The dining level is elevated above the living level and main terrace for clear, uninterrupted views out to sea.

The street-level access opens to the pool terrace on the roof of the house.A glass staircase, at left, leads to the studio entrance below.

At the studio entrance is a reception place with a prototype table designed by the architect that explores residential diversity.

To complete it all, a pool terrace with steel arches that swoop above and down the hillside are gridded with the network of cables that support sails for shade and privacy as well as encourage the growth of greenery. Now this is what you call an engineering marvel!

Stunning Bulgari Resort in Bali

Oh, Bali! Do you ever fail to disappoint? Just when we thought we had exhausted seeing all your scenic hotel resources, there pops another one! Designed by Milan based architectural studio Antonio Citterio and Partners, the Bulgari Resort in Bali represents a contemporary interpretation of a synthesis of Italian design and traditional Balinese style. Location too is a prime selling point here. Perched on a 150m high cliff, the resort offers stunning views of the Indian Ocean to all its 59 villas. Scroll for images…

Marine Research Center in Bali ideas

An International Design Competition was held recently for idealizing a marine research center in Bali, Indonesia. Design firm Solus4 proposed a concept to address the need for tsunami research and preparation in response to the devastation caused by the 2004 Indian ocean earthquake and tsunami. So they chose to architecturally and conceptually conceive a 2,500 square meter eco-friendly marine research center on the water where scientists could study, research and interpret the development and forces of tsunami waves. The idea was to create an instant connection with people as they relate to the structure’s purpose and it’s natural surroundings so they developed an organically shaped building that reflected the elevation of a wave.

The Center consists of underwater labs, scientist bedrooms and an aquatic garden, as well as a sea water pool, swimming pool terrace, bar and an auditorium where conferences and lectures will be held. There will be private and public areas throughout the center and hidden places for collection of rainwater, as it will be filtered for domestic use.

Folks what we have here is a brilliant design plan for the progression of an environmentally scientific initiative. Oh how the world turns….(no pun intended)
